Leadership Talents

Ongoing project – funding secured

Leadership Talents supports committed students on their path to value-oriented leadership.

What it's all about

At KIT, we support committed students on their path to value-oriented leadership with the Leadership Talent Academy (LTA) and the Leadership Talent Lab (LTL). Both programmes offer space for personal development and interdisciplinary exchange – on an equal footing, practical and future-oriented. While the LTA is a scholarship programme that provides intensive support over several months, primarily to Master's and doctoral students, the LTL opens up these opportunities to the entire student body with shorter, more accessible workshop formats. Together, both programmes strengthen the leaders of tomorrow – on the basis of reflective values and personal development.

Leadership Talent Academy (LTA)
Each semester, the Leadership Talent Academy prepares 25 students and doctoral candidates from the engineering and natural sciences faculties for future leadership responsibilities. In eight modules and accompanying individual coaching sessions, participants explore their personal leadership potential and also deal with approaches and methods of good leadership on a theoretical and practical level. This creates a strong alumni network that remains in close contact through regular meetings.
Leadership Talent Lab (LTL)
In the Leadership Talent Lab (LTL), students from all disciplines and degree programmes are exposed to a wide range of topics related to good leadership. Seminars on self-management, team leadership and empowerment for leadership actions form a comprehensive semester programme. Innovative teaching formats in attractive experiential spaces outside the university create a real change of perspective.

What we want to achieve

Leadership Talents aims to comprehensively prepare students for responsible leadership roles by promoting both their value-oriented personal development and their practical leadership skills.

Leadership Talent Academy (LTA)
The Leadership Talent Academy aims to sensitise participants to the need to balance economic, environmental and ethical objectives and to act professionally as future leaders. By focusing on good leadership, participants who have completed the LTA strive for leadership roles that focus on the well-being of people and society. To date, nearly 200 students have completed the programme (as of 10/2024) and, as can be seen from the lively participation in alumni events, remain connected to the programme and its participants long after the actual event has ended. KIT offers its students top-level research-oriented education. The majority of graduates will take on leadership roles in business and society at various levels. The LTA complements the academically excellent curricula to make value-oriented personal development and good leadership more visible, attractive and accessible.
Leadership Talent Lab (LTL)
The project focuses on the personal development of students: through low-threshold offers, they deal with the prerequisites, requirements and scope for action involved in leading and being led. Trying out responsible leadership on their own and together with others in a protected environment promotes experiences of self-efficacy. Reflecting on one's own leadership behaviour can be transferred to work in project groups, student volunteer work and other contexts outside the university. This enables today's students to take on leadership positions in order to contribute to the transformation of tomorrow's economy and society. Networking between students, lecturers and managers offers all participants the opportunity for an exchange between different status groups on an equal footing. This has also been reported by participants in the more than 50 courses held over the past six semesters as a valuable stimulus. In times of skills shortages and uncertainty, the LTL's offerings are therefore an important building block in inspiring young people to take on leadership responsibilities and accompanying them on their way through their studies in a scientifically sound and easy-going manner.

'Good leadership begins with self-reflection and the courage to take responsibility. In the Leadership Talent Lab, students experience leadership as a personal journey of growth – they try their hand at leadership roles, reflect on their understanding of good leadership and discover new scope for action. The programme not only strengthens the personal development of students, but also helps to promote responsible leaders for tomorrow's society.'
