"Climate-adapted design in urban areas: the Kronenplatz effect"
A project that is gradually developing Kronenplatz into a climate-resilient and vibrant urban space.
Kronenplatz in Karlsruhe serves as a reality lab, real-world laboratory for climate-adapted urban design. Together, KIT scientists from the fields of architecture, regional sciences and meteorology are developing new interventions that improve the microclimate and quality of life while promoting social interaction. Initial projects such as the mobile shade structure komorebi and the flexible CORNER installation show how design, participation and climate measurements can work together. As part of the planned research program, further measures will be tested and scientifically evaluated in order to develop transferable concepts for climate-resilient public spaces.
One of the most important targets of the South German Climate Office is to make climate research results usable. To this end, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research projects are being carried out to compile climate research findings and prepare them for application.
