The training camp to prepare for the 2026 International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) took place at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from June 28 to July 2, 2026. The top ten participants in the German Geosciences Olympiad were invited to Karlsruhe by the German Geosciences Association and KIT to deepen their knowledge of the geosciences through specialized lectures, laboratory and fieldwork, and excursions. Key topics included geophysics, tectonics, seismology, volcanism, the Alps (including the Po Valley), paleontology, and scientific discussions in English. The top four students will travel to Turin at the end of August to represent Germany at the International Earth Science Olympiad.

The camp was made possible thanks to the support of the Dr. Hartwig Blume Foundation in Hamburg; special thanks go to Mr. Grüttner, who took the time to visit the training camp. We would also like to thank Prof. Dr. Schilling and Dr. Müller from the Institute of Applied Geosciences, as well as Mr. Gauß and his Science Camp team at the Center for Technology-Enhanced Learning, for their tremendous dedication to organizing and running the training camp.
